I've the same problem. Instead of connect state the processes don't exit after
auth fail when pop3s is used
btw: the perdition ldap-module is used in my setup.

could you check perdition-1.19-rc4 and see if the problem still exists there?
I seem to recall fixing that bug but I can't find reference to it in
the changelog at this time.
