Fatal error: Pid file [/usr/local/var/run/perdition.pop3/perdition.pop3.pid] exists for process

Until we reboot the system the service is recovered. Is there any fix on that. We are using version 1.18 and running on Red-Hat 4.4.7-4. Thanks.
