it doesn't look like this is addressed in 2.1 (though i might be reading
the mercurial changelog wrong) -- is there anything i can do to make it
more acceptable?

I think the patch looks good, though I'd like to take a closer look
at it before applying it before applying it.
My preference is to wait a bit before releasing 2.2, but if its
urgent I can make a release more quickly.
Also, what are the plans for uploading 2.1 to debian?
