Last section on that page say:
Additional Real-Servers
Additional real servers should be confugred as per above with the
omission of configuring packet forwarding and heartbeat.
I think this is quite clear but I think you didn't read that far :-)
That means you can have 2-node director (which act as real servers too)
and 1 to n additional nodes which are only real servers, not director.
